Flu Infection Protection: N-95 Respirator Face Masks

EDIT*** I found some N-95 masks at HOME DEPOT. You can get a box for 20 bucks...

http://www.birdflusmart.com/n95mask.html

In case of a pandemic flu outbreak, protect yourself with N-95 face masks as recommended by the U.S. Center for Disease Control (CDC). These N-95 respirators are for those who may come in contact with avian influenza (bird flu), and other particulate matter such as dust and other contaminants present in disaster situations.

For what it's worth..... Ro:15_1_70v:

Those aren't too bad, but these are higher rated against TB and influenza. And more cost effective, too. :emotions16:

Why did you pick these masks to sell?

The only information I could google on them was that they are $7 cheaper at SAMS club.

As I've mentioned in another thread, most types of facial hair will render N95 masks almost totally ineffective.

Picked up 2 boxes of generic 3m n-95 respirators from Lowes today, about 20 bucks for 10.

Prob not as good as some posted here, but 1 in the hand beats 2 in the bush.

Re: Flu Infection Protection: N-95 Respirator Face Masks

The bottom line is that N95 respirators are only good down to 0.1 micron. Most viruses are far smaller than that. They are probably better than nothing, but not by much.

Agreed, but I think the basic idea is to protect against sneezing/coughing expelled particles. In that instance, the n95 should help somewhat.

N95s will offer significant protection from airborne droplets as well as substantial protection from contamination via one's own hands (that is, touch contaminated surface then touch face).

Also curious why you picked those masks, I saw you advertising them over on ZS also.

You sold out now on them? If you still have some and can get them into the mail in the next couples days I can buy a box directly from you via Paypal and cut out eBay. PM me if you can do this with final cost and paypal info.

Anyone who might be prepared to spend at least a hundred bucks on medical preps might be interested in this company's N95 (and N100) masks:
http://www.buyemp.com/category/Parti...spirators.html
The Dukal, Dynarex, and Inovel 1500 masks range from seventy cents to a buck each.

It doesn't hurt to have plenty of bandages and dressings on hand too:
http://www.buyemp.com/category/Bandages-Dressings.html

Disclosure: I have been a customer of this company, and they seem to have pretty good prices and decent selection. If another vendor had better prices, I would give them a try immediately.

Guys I mentioned the N-99 masks are top notch. Rated 100 times better than the N-95's. They look to be going really fast. I would look into it.

The next time someone near you sneezes, this is what is in the air you don't see.
You don't want to see what someone's flatulance looks like, trust me. Same thing, smaller particles.

Infantry NCO, you should make it clear tha you are pushing your own products when suggesting others buy YOUR MASKS (medical_solutions) on Ebay. As the other poster mentioned they are MUCH MUCH cheaper at SAMS.

You shouldn't try and gouge your fellow GIM'ers. Maybe I should sell some of those masks on ebay, you must make a fine profit selling items before you purchase them... :wavey:

i bought them today and should have them shortly....not a bad item to throw into the basement box.

Sams Club requires a membership to buy from right? Also Infantry will sell direct to you cutting out eBay which gives ya a nicer price. Just PM if interested.

EDIT: Sams Club requires at least $35 for membership son unless you are already a member with Sams, Infantry is offering a way better bottom line price.

Question,

Are the N95 masks here for $4 a piece something special, or just way overpriced. http://www.nitro-pak.com/product_inf...oducts_id=1217

I am guessing way overpriced. I actually forgot I have 4 of these stashed in my BOB. I paid $1.50 a piece for them from nitro-pak like a year ago. Are these bastards price gouging N95 masks??

keep in mind when ordering masks the higher the protection the harder they are to wear. We have special fitted heavy duty TB masks at work. Ill check on the name tomorrow when I work.. Its all I can do to make it through 10 minutes while I work on a TB patient. Its easy to get light headed and claustrophobic..They are not only filtering germs but a fair amount of oxygen too. Many of the masks you see people wearing on TV are fairly useless as the particle of virus can pass right through the loose weave.

Also hand washing is just as important as a mask.

Re: Flu Infection Protection: N-95 Respirator Face Masks

Holy cow. I ordered six cases (120 N-95 masks) last night for $199. Today the price is $275.

I don't know yet what to think of this outbreak. However I think it is wise to be prepared in case it mutates to something more dangerous.

If a lot of people start getting sick and putting a burden on the medical systems I DO NOT want my family getting sick at that point and having to fight for treatment and hang out among other sick people.

I buy 2 cases of 3M N95 respirators every week at work for my guys. I called my supplier and told him to make sure we keep getting supplied. He didn't say anything about prices, but I expect some major increases soon.

Re: Flu Infection Protection: N-95 Respirator Face Masks

I use masks on a regular basis, the n-95 is a great mask compared to anything else you will see in a store, minus the pesticide/herbicide masks that are non disposable and you only change out the filters.

Re: Flu Infection Protection: N-95 Respirator Face Masks

I got my first box of these I ordered online in today, says they have an expiration of 9/09 on them. Each mask is individually sealed, I am wondering how these masks can have an expiration date? Doesn't seem like something that would "expire" overtime.

j-son 05-06-2009 02:14 PM

Re: Flu Infection Protection: N-95 Respirator Face Masks

i received my box of these yesterday from sams club online.
i didnt check for expiration dates but will when i get home today.

does seem strange that something on it expires....unless its some rubber gasket that might dry out an crack or something.

Can somebody that has a lot of experience with these masks give me some advice on how to use one without fogging up my eyeglasses?

I'm sure others here have the same problem or will have whenever they break out their masks and try to use them.

Does it help to buy the mask that has a valve?

N95 masks won't protect you at all. It'll only help prevent you from spreading the virus to other people.

That style mask will help, but it sounds like you're having a fit problem. With the type of mask that you have, is there a moldable element at the bridge of the nose? If so, try compressing it closer to the contour of your face.

The only masks I have used are the cheapie ones with without the metal band at the top. I used them when working with insulation etc.

Most N95 mask unless they are fitted and made to fit you and olny you will only filter down to 3 micron. The H1N1 is about 1.5 microns. Washing your hands every chance you get is about the best practice to avoid the flu, colds, and any other stray virus you may pick up.

But good enough to stop drops from a sneeze. AND prevent you from accidentally touching your nose or mouth. Waaaayyy better than nothing, IMO.

+1000
Most of these people ordering 95 or 100 should test then out.
You can get claustrophobic in a hurry and it's very hard to breathe.
I work in a lab and I would not buy any without the exhalation valve on it.

I reccommend you wear one and go walk around for 15 minutes then you will see if you could wear them in a SHTF situation.
